Best Time to Visit Jackson Hole for RV Camping

Did you know Jackson Hole is open year-round for seasonal adventures?

While many months offer relatively temperate weather, the high mountains are prone to blustery snowstorms and consistent below freezing conditions.

With that said, there is a multitude of activities to do year-round. It all depends on the adventure that you want to take!

Winter

At 6,237 feet above sea level, this ski resort oasis is widely known for its freezing winter temperatures. Even more, Jackson Hole gets more than 500 inches of snow each year!

While you may want to avoid the heavy snow days, the mountainous region offers world-class terrain for skiing and snowboarding. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Snow King Mountain Resort, and Grand Targhee Resort all offer convenient slopeside access and beautiful scenery for thrill-seeking skiers and snowboarders.

There is some very tough terrain only meant for experienced snowboarders and skiers; nonetheless, you can find intermediate locations for those amateur winter sports enthusiasts. It is also home to the nation’s best ski schools if you would like to learn, though there is limited beginner terrain.

The fun doesn’t stop there! You can also enjoy other winter activities like snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, dog sledding tours, snowmobiling, sleigh rides, snow tubing, backcountry skiing, and tram and gondola rides.

Even better, Jackson Hole is less busy during the winter season, offering guests some sought-after peace.

Spring

If freezing temperatures aren’t your forte, spring may be a better season to venture out to Jackson Hole. Temperatures can range between 35 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

Keep in mind, though, that while the springtime can be comfortable and warm, it is also prone to extremely unpredictable weather that can reach near-freezing temperatures.

Spring is an underrated, quiet time of year that is great for wildlife lovers. Elk, deer, bison, moose, and eagles roam the mountainscape at this time of year. Additionally, you may even get to see some baby animals, as elk, deer, and moose begin calving in spring.

Other activities at Jackson Hole include fly fishing, biking, and Spring skiing and snowboarding.

Summer

Despite the popularity of the ski mountains, summer is the busiest time of year and is regarded as the best time to visit Jackson Hole.

Rivers run full, mountain trails are open, and nearby towns bustle to life with local events, fun shops, and delectable restaurants.

Moreover, the weather is dry and mild, making it perfect for camping, with temperatures ranging between 75 and 85-plus degrees Fahrenheit. Despite the sunny day, you may encounter the occasional afternoon thunderstorm.

Fun summer activities include paragliding, golfing, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, paddleboarding, scenic float trips, canoeing. Additionally, visitors can fly fish, hike, wildlife watch, and much more.

Fall

If you’d rather not visit Jackson Hole when the area is bustling, fall is a peaceful time to find refuge. Most summer activities are accessible without the hustle and bustle. The weather tends to range from 45 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit, though early snowstorms are possible. September and October offer the most consistent weather conditions, though, where days are warm enough to spend time outside.

Fall is thus a great time for hiking and fishing. Additionally, hunting season gets underway during this time of year.
