Things To Do Near Lake Bruin State Park

  • Delta Music Museum - Off the beaten path in the nearby tiny town of Ferriday, Louisiana, this museum is a must for music and history lovers alike. The museum showcases music heritage and memorabilia from the Mississippi River Delta Region, spanning from Memphis, Tennessee, down to New Orleans, with special focus on artists Jerry Lee Lewis and Fats Domino.

This is also a major hunting area, primarily for white-tailed deer.
  • Poverty Point World Heritage Site - Considered “one of the most important archaeological sites in North America,” this prehistoric system of carefully-constructed earthen mounds is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The structures date back to somewhere between 1700 and 1100 B.C.; the mounds were constructed by hand to sit high above the Mississippi River floodplain — as high as 72 feet tall.
  • Frogmore Cotton Plantation and Gins - Step back in time to this working cotton plantation in Ferriday. The 1,800-acre cotton farm and museum date back to 1815, as it served at different points in time as a stop on the Natchez-to-Natchitoches wagon trail and as a Civil War encampment.
  • Wild Country Safari Park - For an easy, family-friendly day trip, take the one-hour drive through this safari park. Drive your own vehicle or take a guided tour through the grounds, where you’ll see over 30 species of exotic animals.
