Lake Tahoe RV Camping Tips

Campgrounds are usually only open between mid-May and mid-October, so be sure to check the campsite’s schedules and make reservations before you visit.

Plan your route before you set out on the road, but be flexible—in case of road closures. There is limited cell service in the area, so keep a print map on hand for when you hit dead service zones.

While camping, be aware that bears are commonly found in the area. Pack up your food when you are not eating and lock everything up when you are not around.

Even in the hottest parts of summer, nights can be cold. Pack jackets and other warm layers with you when you visit the area, especially if you plan on being outside at night.

The lake is about 6,225 feet in elevation, and the surrounding mountains are even higher. The high elevation can cause people to experience dry skin and eyes. Consider packing lotion, saline nasal spray, and artificial tear drops to avoid nose bleeds, dry skin, and dry eyes. Moreover, carry water with you at all times and don’t forget the sunscreen!
